In the world of traditional acoustic music in the big city, the Ponkiesburg Pickin' Party is one of the longest running weekly jams. It was founded way back in October 2000 by Barbara Brousal, a Brooklyn native and wonderful songwriter/singer/guitarist/mandolinist. It was Barbara's idea for a few close friends to get together on Sundays and sit around and play traditional songs, with an emphasis on fun sing-a-long tunes that everyone can enjoy, regardless of skill level.

This is a steady and regular jam focusing on the Americana song-book. Each week sees the same regulars and new faces come by to share tunes, share stories and have a good time. Be sure to bring an instrument and some songs to sing when you drop by.

Baggot Inn
82 W. 3rd St.
(between Thompson and Sullivan)

Every Wednesday night the luminaries of the New York Bluegrass and Old Time scenes convene in at the Baggot Inn to drink beer together, pick tunes and argue over the relative merits of singing in B or A and whether it's wrong for four jews to be singing about Jesus. The best part of the show is that it's an open jam so bring yer axe and play along. You're guaranteed a good time, cheap enough beer, an enthusiastic audience and a cast of characters that's always keeps the night entertaining.
