Michael DavesThe Michael Daves Bluegrass Mob plays roof-raising string band music, as much in touch with the psychotic, trance-like Applachian mountain fiddling roots as with the notion that the early Bluegrass heroes - Bill Monroe, Jimmy Martin, and others -- embodied the visceral, iconoclastic essence of rock n' roll before its time. Led by Daves on guitar, mandolin, and tenor vocals, the group features a rotating cast of New York's top traditional musicians.

The Brooklyn Country Music Festival is a free music festival featuring New York City's finest local country, blugrass, old-timey, and honky tonk talents. The 2nd Annual Brooklyn Country Music Festival will take place over the last two weekends in July, 2005. 40 different acts will perform their own brand of country music over 8 days at two venues, Freddy's Back Room (7 days) and Buttermilk Bar (1 day).

The evening starts at 8pm with a song circle featuring all the night's acts as they jam and croon away on whatever songs strike their fancy. Following the circle three bands play an hour set. Sir His Highness El Presidente Doc Oscar books amazing bands every month and you can be assured an evening steeped deep in the hills of traditional American song.

Sean Kershaw and the New Jack RamblersCan't get enough Jumbalaya over the holidays? Feeling those Lovesick Blues for someone special? Looking for the best way to break those New Years resolutions before they're even 24 hours old?

It seems the good folks at Arlene's Grocery will be hosting the Hank-O-Rama - Hank Williams Tribute on Saturday, Jan. 1st at 8pm.

Playing that evening will be some of New York's best cowboy hat wearing bands. The lineup includes: Lonesome Prairie Dogs, The Whiskey Rebellion, Sean Kershaw and the New Jack Ramblers, The American String Conspiracy, The Blue State Band, and the Nieces and Nephews.
