The evening starts at 8:30 pm with a song circle featuring all the night's acts as they jam and croon away on whatever songs strike their fancy. Following the circle three bands play an hour set. Sir His Highness El Presidente Doc Oscar books amazing bands every month and you can be assured an evening steeped deep in the hills of traditional American song.
The Lineup is:
8:30pm - Song Circle
Julie Zee and Dave Mignani (guitar and singing)
Alan Friend and Julianne Carney (guitar, banjo, fiddle singing)
Katherine Etzel and Dock Oscar (guitar and singing)
9:30pm - Homegrown String Band
The Homegrown String Band, a twenty-first century incarnation of the traditional family band which was literally homegrown, consists of Georgianne and Rick Jackofsky and their two daughters Erica and Annalee. This family that plays together has been performing at coffeehouses and bluegrass, blues, and folk festivals, from Maine to Missouri since 1997. Working without a plan or adult supervision, and with unique instrumentation (guitar, fiddle, banjo uke, jawharp, mandolin, harmonica, and dulcimer), the band has taken to coloring outside the lines, using blue crayons for
the sun, purple for the grass, and developing their own continually evolving, revolving, and sometimes dissolving musical style which has been called "hard to describe" among other things. A Homegrown String Band show is a rollicking ride through the sounds of American music, from the driving rhythms of old time dance tunes to the mournful sounds of old mountain ballads and blues.
10:30pm - Citigrass [3]
CITIGRASS [4] is not just a Bluegrass band, not just a jamband; they are a musical experience built of seasoned musicians and world travelers. CITIGRASS [5] specializes in mixing bluegrass, rock, folk, Celtic and world music to create their own style of "Urban Bluegrass," blending rock and jam influences with traditional bluegrass to create a hot, modern sound with worldwide appeal. The band has built a solid foundation within the bluegrass, jam, and world-music circles. In addition to several guest visits from Mike Gordon (Phish), the band has shared the stage with Yonder Mountain String Band, Double Trouble, Railroad Earth, and many other artists. CITIGRASS [6] has struck a nerve within the pulse of the entertainment industry. Their latest recording "Serpent in the Grass" slithered its way into the TOP 20 CMJ CHARTS, and the record has been receiving strong rotation on Bluegrass/Americana/Rock stations and programs.
